Vilsoni Hereniko is an award-winning playwright, filmmaker, and professor at the Academy for Creative Media at the University of Hawai'i where he teaches courses on indigenous aesthetics and indigenous filmmaking. The first and only native of Fiji to have made a feature film, The Land Has Eyes, he has written widely on the arts and cultures of Oceania and was a cultural consultant for Disney's animated feature film Moana. During the pandemic, he completed two short indigenous films titled "A Niu Way: Coconut Trees, the Virus and the Vision" and "Sina ma Tinirau." The first is now streaming on social media; the second will make its world premiere at the Hawai'i International Film Festival in November, 2021.
