A graduate from the Faculty of Literature at Hanoi University, Đồng Thị Phương Thảo’s first documentary, Grandfather, a personal record of a member of her family, was the first-ever Vietnamese documentary to be selected for IDFA, under the “Voice of Southeast Asia” section. It went on the screen at numerous international film festivals. She completed a Cinema Scriptwriting Course at the National University and Independent Documentary Filmmaking Course at the Center of Documentary & Experimental Film, continuing to make works that have screened in museums and festivals around Southeast Asia.
